The Beginnings of New Love

The Beginnings of New Love

She went out for a girls' night out with some friends. She didn't really want to, but her friends insisted because they thought that it might help her get over her recent break up. So she forced herself to dress decently and leave the house, though what she really wanted to do was sink into bed with a book.

She was expecting a torturous evening watching her friends getting male attention while she sat brooding about her sorry life. She knew that her friends would take turns sitting with her if she didn't want to dance because they wanted to be there for her. But she also knew that she was holding them back from having a great time with their admirers.

The evening started off pretty much like she was expecting. However, her friends took her seriously when she said, “Please, believe me, I'm very happy to sit here with my drink and watch you guys go crazy. You really don't have to sit next to me all night”. Suddenly, she found herself sitting alone with her drink, watching her friends on the dance floor.

“May I sit here with you?” she heard a good-looking guy ask her. “I'm here with friends, sorry,” she said, though in her head she felt good about being asked. She was smiling to herself when the guy continued, “Why aren't you dancing with your friends?” She wanted to snap at him that she hadn't been asked, but decided to be nice to him for making her feel like she wasn't an ugly duckling. “I'm waiting to be asked,” she said. “Would you agree if I asked you to dance with me?” he asked. “Sure,” she said, and proceeded to have a great evening. He was charming and thought that she was charming.

They met every night that week, and there were sparks of the kind that she had never felt before. For the first time in her life, she felt beautiful. She walked with a spring, and smiled like she owned the world. On their 8th date, she took him home.

She woke up the next morning next to him and kissed him good morning. He complimented her on how wonderful she looked even in the morning. She went into the bathroom to freshen up with the largest goofiest smile in her head. By the time she came out, he had left. He had left a note on the pillow saying, “Don't call me. You are a lovely girl, but I'm not interested in a serious relationship right now. Consider this a one-night stand where the wooing took a week. It was challenge to see if I still had it in me to charm a girl. Have a great life!”
